We’re a nonprofit law firm providing free legal services and advocacy to Iowa’s most vulnerable residents.
Every person should have a fair shot at justice.
Imagine unfairly losing your home, safety, or income because you couldn’t afford a lawyer. This is a reality for thousands of Iowans.
For nearly 50 years, we’ve fought to give underserved people a voice, helping more than 30,000 individuals annually.
Yet the need surpasses our capacity. Last year, we had to turn away thousands of eligible applicants due to limited resources.

Is my donation tax-deductible?
Yes, Iowa Legal Aid Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. All donations are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.
What planned giving options are there?
We offer a variety of planned giving options. The most straightforward option is naming Iowa Legal Aid as a beneficiary in your will, retirement plan, or life insurance. Please consult your estate or tax professional for advice on the best option for your situation.
Can I donate from my IRA?
If you’re 70½ or older, you may be able to make a tax-free donation from your IRA to satisfy your Required Minimum Distribution. Please consult your financial advisor for details.
Can I donate stocks or securities?
Yes, we accept gifts of stocks and securities. You can have your broker transfer shares to our account at UBS Financial Services, Inc., or send stock certificates directly to our office. Please check out our Donate page, or contact us for specific instructions and to ensure proper credit for your donation.
Do you have an endowment fund?
Yes, our endowment fund (the Iowa Legal Aid Foundation Friend’s Fund) is held at the Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation. Contributions to this fund may be eligible for the Endow Iowa Tax Credit.
