How Ashley Reclaimed Hope
Iowa Legal Aid was appointed to represent Ashley after her children were removed due to substance abuse.
Iowa Legal Aid first obtained a federal housing voucher that allowed Ashley to obtain stable housing, which became the foundation for accessing addiction treatment, testing, and counseling services. Once she was on the right track, Iowa Legal Aid then helped her regain custody of her children.
“They really made me feel cared about, they made me feel like my case mattered…” said Ashley. “I don’t really want to imagine what my life would be like if I didn’t have Iowa Legal Aid to help me through my problems.”
With this support, Ashley used her newly found stability to pursue an education and career path in social work.
