Dennis and Pricilla’s Fight
Dennis and Pricilla moved to western Iowa from California in 2007, buying a home before their California house sold.
On a fixed income and helping their daughter through a medical crisis, they fell behind financially. Though they owned farmland, the bank wasn’t following the rules that apply to farm properties and pushed for foreclosure.
Navigating the court system and dealing with the bank became overwhelming. “We didn’t know if we’d have our home anymore,” Dennis said. “You feel like you’ve come to the end.”
Iowa Legal Aid stepped in, helping Pricilla and Dennis understand their rights and negotiate with the bank.
“They treated us great, explained everything, and kept us informed.” With that support, Dennis and Pricilla kept their home. “We had a lot of sleepless nights, but once Iowa Legal Aid stepped in, we could finally relax.”
