Justice for Tammy’s Family
Tammy first connected with Iowa Legal Aid through the Community Schools Project for help with employment. But as her story unfolded, it became clear she and her children were experiencing serious abuse at home. Her three daughters were struggling in school, and the root cause was a long history of domestic violence.
Iowa Legal Aid ultimately helped Tammy with a number of legal issues, including child custody, a protective order stemming from domestic violence, and garnishment of her finances due to her spouse’s debt.
“I just felt like giving up,” Tammy said through tears. “I felt unimportant…I didn’t feel like we were going to make it.”
With Iowa Legal Aid’s help, Tammy found the safety and support she and her girls deserved. She finally had someone who treated her like she mattered—someone who stood by her and advocated for her family. That changed everything.
