On October 5, 2026, the Governor issued a disaster declaration for Black Hawk County in response to severe storms that occurred on September 30, 2026, and continuing. The Iowa Individual Assistance Grant Program and the Disaster Case Advocacy Program were activated. The deadline to apply for Individual Assistance Grants is November 19, 2026.
On October 8, 2026, the Governor issued a disaster declaration for Pottawattamie County in response to severe storms that occurred on September 29, 2026, and continuing. The Iowa Individual Assistance Grant Program and the Disaster Case Advocacy Program were activated. The deadline to apply for Individual Assistance Grants is November 23, 2026.
Small Business Administration assistance available for select counties:
The Small Business Administration is now able to provide assistance in the form of low-interest disaster loans for Boone, Dallas, Jasper, Madison, Marion, Polk, Story, and Warren Counties impacted by severe storms, heavy rain, and flash flooding between July 2 and 4, 2026. Homeowners, renters, businesses, and most nonprofit organizations in these counties whose property was damaged or destroyed by this disaster can apply for low-interest disaster loans from the SBA. Additionally, small businesses, agricultural cooperatives, and most private, nonprofit organizations impacted by the severe weather will be eligible to apply for working capital loans.
Disaster loan applications can be submitted online at lending.sba.gov or in person at designated assistance centers. For details on center hours and locations, visit disasterrecovery.iowa.gov/SBA. Applicants may also contact the SBA Customer Service Center at (800) 659-2955, or email disastercustomerservice@sba.gov for additional information. Individuals who are deaf, hard of hearing, or have a speech disability can access telecommunications relay services by dialing 7-1-1.
The deadline to apply for physical damage is September 21, 2026. The deadline to apply for economic injury is April 23, 2027.
Iowa Individual Assistance Grant Program information:
The Iowa Individual Assistance Grant Program provides grants of up to $7,000 for households with incomes up to 200 percent of the federal poverty level. Qualifying expenses must fit within one of the four categories: temporary housing, food assistance, personal property, and home repair. Original receipts are required for those seeking reimbursement for actual expenses related to storm recovery. The grant application and instructions are available on the Iowa Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management website at https://homelandsecurity.iowa.gov/disasters/individual-disaster-assistance-programs#iowa-individual-disaster-assistance-grant-program-iiagp. Potential applicants have 45 days from the date of the proclamation to submit a claim.
Disaster Case Advocacy Program information:
The Disaster Case Advocacy Program addresses serious needs related to disaster-related hardship, injury, or adverse conditions. Disaster case advocates work with clients to create a disaster recovery plan and provide guidance, advice, and referrals to obtain a service or resource. There are no income eligibility requirements for this program; it closes 180 days from the date of the governor’s proclamation.
